Turn lectures into notes you can study from
Record the class, keep the source
Start recording from the app, the Lock Screen or Dynamic Island Live Activity, Control Center, Siri, Shortcuts, or your Apple Watch. When the lecture ends, Phrase processes the recording into a structured note — title, summary, transcription, and an organized body — and the original audio stays attached.
Because the note is created only after processing succeeds, a failed upload never leaves an empty half-note in your library. Failed tasks can simply be retried.
A transcript you can actually search
Phrase records and transcribes in 100+ languages. The Source Viewer plays the lecture with active transcript segments, and supports transcript search, copy, and full-screen reading — so “where did she explain the second theorem?” takes seconds, not a re-listen. Library search covers titles, summaries, and note content, with CJK substring matching and Latin prefix matching.
From lecture to flashcards, quizzes, and mind maps
Ask AI to turn a lecture note into Artifacts: flashcards for spaced review, quizzes to test yourself before the exam, mind maps to see the structure of a topic, or a slide deck to present a reading group. Artifacts keep links back to the source note when available, so an answer can always be checked against what was actually said in class. Decks present full-screen on device or on an external display over AirPlay, USB-C, or HDMI, and Artifacts export to PDF.
Slides, readings, and whiteboard photos too
Lectures are more than audio. Import the professor’s PDF handout, snap up to 8 whiteboard photos into one note, or drop in a recorded seminar video — each becomes a structured, searchable note with the source attached. Refine everything in a pure-native block editor built for long, mixed-media notes, with headings, lists, todos, code, formulas, images, and Mermaid diagrams.
Private by design
Notes are local-first and sync through your own iCloud — there is no separate Phrase account, and nothing is kept on Eversight servers after processing builds your note. Recording a class is subject to your school’s policies, so ask permission where required.
Can Phrase record a full lecture?
Yes. Phrase records in the app, from the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island Live Activity, from Control Center, through Siri and Shortcuts, or from Apple Watch. When the recording is processed, Phrase creates a structured note with a transcription, summary, and editable content — the original audio stays attached.
What languages does lecture transcription support?
Phrase can record and transcribe in 100+ languages, and search supports CJK substring matching alongside Latin prefix matching, so lectures in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean stay searchable.
Can I search inside a lecture transcript?
Yes. The Source Viewer supports transcript search, transcript copy, full-screen transcript viewing, and active transcript segments during playback, so you can jump back to the exact moment something was said.
Can Phrase turn lecture notes into study tools?
Yes. From a lecture note, Phrase can create flashcards, quizzes, and mind maps as Artifacts, plus slide decks and pages. Artifacts keep links back to the source note when available, so answers can be checked against the lecture.
Can I import lecture slides or readings?
Yes. Phrase imports PDFs, image sets (up to 8 images per note task), audio files, and videos, so slide handouts, whiteboard photos, and recorded seminars can become notes too.
Do my lecture recordings stay private?
Phrase is local-first: notes live on device and sync through your own iCloud. Media is processed only to build the note, and nothing is kept on Eversight servers afterwards. Always follow your school’s recording policies and ask permission where required.
