Frequently asked questions

Capture, AI, Artifacts, privacy, and Apple-native features, answered.

What is Phrase?

Phrase is an Apple-native AI note-taking app that turns captured source material into editable, searchable, source-backed notes and Artifacts. You can start from recordings, audio files, PDFs, images, videos, or blank notes, then refine notes in a high-performance native block editor or ask AI to create decks, pages, dashboards, flashcards, quizzes, mind maps, and small web apps.

Who is Phrase best for?

Phrase is best for students, researchers, founders, builders, journalists, and professionals who capture lectures, meetings, interviews, voice memos, PDFs, screenshots, or videos and need an AI note they can verify, edit, search, and act on across Apple-native workflows.

When should I choose Phrase instead of Voice Memos or a basic notes app?

Choose Phrase when the recording or source file needs to become a structured note, not just an audio file or plain text page. Phrase keeps the original source attached, creates transcripts and summaries, supports a native block editor, and lets AI draft follow-ups or create reminders with approval.

Does Phrase store my notes on its servers?

No. Phrase is local-first: your notes live on device and sync across your devices through your own iCloud. Media is processed only to build the note, then nothing is kept on Eversight servers, and there is no separate Phrase account.

How does Phrase sync across my devices?

Phrase syncs through your own iCloud, tied to your Apple account. There is no separate Phrase account or login. Because sync runs through your iCloud, your notes are not stored on Eversight servers.

What can I import into Phrase?

Phrase supports blank notes, in-app recordings, audio files, PDFs, image sets, and videos. Image imports can include up to 8 images in one note task.

Can Phrase turn recordings into notes?

Yes. Phrase can record audio, process the recording, and create a structured note with transcription, summary, and editable content when the task succeeds. It is designed for voice memos, lectures, meetings, interviews, research calls, and quick thoughts.

What happens if media processing fails?

Phrase uses a server-first media task flow. A final note is created after processing succeeds, so failed processing does not leave behind an empty half-note. Failed tasks can be retried.

Can I view the original source after Phrase creates a note?

Yes. Phrase keeps source media attached. Recordings, audio, and video can be played with transcripts, and PDFs and images can be viewed from the source surface when available.

What does the Source Viewer support?

The Source Viewer supports playback for audio and video, transcript search, transcript copy, full-screen transcript viewing, active transcript segments, PDF viewing, and image source viewing.

Can I edit notes after AI generates them?

Yes. Phrase includes a high-performance, pure-native iOS block editor built for long, mixed-media structured notes. AI can create the structure, but the result stays fully editable with movable blocks, headings, paragraphs, lists, todos, quotes, code, formulas, images, audio, Mermaid, dividers, document links, and rich formatting.

Does Phrase support code, formulas, and diagrams?

Yes. Phrase supports code blocks, formula blocks, and Mermaid blocks, along with image, audio, document-link, divider, todo, quote, list, and rich text blocks.

How does search work in Phrase?

Phrase searches note titles, summaries, and block content. It supports full-text search, CJK substring matching, and Latin prefix matching. Ask AI can answer from note snippets and show source notes you can open.

Can Phrase help with lectures, meetings, interviews, and research?

Yes. Phrase is built for source-heavy note workflows such as class lectures, meeting recaps, customer interviews, podcast or video notes, reading notes from PDFs, and research material captured on the go. The source stays attached so the generated note can be checked later, and AI can turn that material into study tools, slide decks, pages, dashboards, or mind maps.

What are Phrase Artifacts?

Artifacts are AI-created outputs generated from your notes: slide decks, pages, dashboards, flashcards, quizzes, mind maps, and small web apps. They live as their own items in Phrase, keep links back to source notes when available, can be revised by asking AI, and can be exported to PDF.

Can Phrase create presentations or PPT-style decks from notes?

Yes. Phrase can turn a note into a slide deck for a talk, lesson, or meeting. Decks can present full-screen on device, and when an external display is connected through AirPlay, USB-C, or HDMI, Phrase can show the slides on the big screen while your device stays in control.

Can Phrase make flashcards, quizzes, mind maps, pages, dashboards, and web apps?

Yes. Phrase Artifacts include native study tools such as flashcards, quizzes, and mind maps, plus web-rendered pages, dashboards, slide decks, and small web apps. Built-in artifact types are designed to work from the source-backed notes already in your library.

What can the AI assistant do?

Phrase includes global chat, document chat, and Artifact editing. The assistant can search, read, edit, create, restore, and organize notes, create folders, list todos, read transcriptions, create Artifacts, revise Artifacts, draft email or message updates, create Reminders, prepare Calendar events, schedule local notifications, run Shortcuts, copy to clipboard, and open URLs. Sensitive writes and system actions use confirmation or permission gates.

Does Phrase support widgets, Dynamic Island, Control Center, and Apple Watch?

Yes. Phrase includes Home Screen widgets for notes, lists, todos, and note highlights; a recording Live Activity on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island; a Control Center recording toggle; Siri, Spotlight, and Shortcuts recording intents; and an Apple Watch companion app with recording, task status, and watch-face complication support.
